Newegg has the EnGenius ERB9250 802.11b/g/n Wireless Range Extender for $37 with free shipping. Features up to 300Mbps data transmission and 64/128-bit WEP, WPA/WPA2 security.
I bought several range extenders for my daughter. The thing that worked best was a USB NIC on a 15' cable which she could move around to find the best signal. The extenders were of no use.
i have one of these units and highly recommend it. i now get a reliable Wifi signal throughout my whole house, when without, i was barely able to pick up my (neighbor's) signal in only 2 locations. <$40 is less than one month of Comcast broadband...
If you need range extender - you can get cheap and DD-WRT compatible router instead. Just update the firmware and set up as repeater (or bridge if you like that). That might work better this. I used to have Linksys WRT54G as repeater and it works better than most of the range extender. FYI
