Blah, blah, blah, fatties. Blah, blah, blah, green.
Seriously...is this an American product or what?!
Hey, 40mph isn't that bad. If you don't need to take a highway to work, this could be a legit form of transportation. Suddenly doesn't look so wasteful when it's replacing a 20-30mpg car.
what is this India or China? give it up Ben, this is shite.
There's nothing green about a 2-stroke engine, they pollute far more than most cars.
this will make a great impression on a first date
As we've already written over and over, these are not likely EPA certified, and a PITA that you have to carry oil with you to refill at a gas station.
#3 you can't expect 40MPH that is optimistic upper end, like with a tailwind on a perfect road and streamlined narrow tires, etc, and you do not want narrow tires riding a bicycle 40MPH regularly on most roads.
Since it's over 49cc, odds are your state requires the bike be licensed, including liability insurance, wearing a helmet, etc., and even then it may be illegal on bike paths, sidewalks, AND roads, meaning it can't legally be taken anywhere in public unless they have a scooter lane to use.
The funny thing is, unlike with cars you will be better off building an electric Li-Ion powered bike, and since it's quieter and no constant smoke pouring out you will get a lot less attention from the police in addition to it potentially being as fast without the engine displacement laws working against you.
Perfect for reenacting scenes from Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.
2 strokes are not that bad you hippies. Sure if every one is using them but on a scale this small its nothing.
2-strokes are terrible polluters. You need to do some research clueless one.
No doubt this is probably a polluter but with modern synthetic oils 2 strokes do not leave clouds anymore. Back in the early 80's they developed a lean burn 2 stroke in Australia called the Orbit engine that was ultra efficient and powerful as well as being modular and extremely easy to rebuild. Ford bought all the patents and then buried the design. Actually diesel is usually much worse than evil 2 strokes, especially the earlier high sulfur blends. If you can fabricate then go lithium battery and electric like #7 pointed out. Oh yeah, be sure to paint it green too!
Samijubal your not much of a reader are you. I said on a scale this small its nothing. if every one drove them it would be an issue, but since maybe 1 in a million people will ever own one it will have no impact on the environment. 2 strokes are the best weight power combo you can get. Nothing else comes close.
two strokes is what got pee wee arrested
A quick search on Google shows many sites that sell these things. For example gasbike.net has the 80cc size for $120 and they also have install manuals on their site to show how to do it... looks like a major PITA to install. Google also threw up a forum for these things - who'da thought?
Linky: http://www.gasbike.net/bicycle-motor-engine-kit-gas-bike-jet-80cc.html
Some guy in my neighborhood drives something like this. It is very noisy. Smells bad too. He does get going though.... Well over 30 mph.
On a scale even this small, you won't want to be standing around one for very long while it's running nor start it in your garage then close the door until garage has aired out.
It may be 1 in a million, then there's more than that who own a leaf blower, weed wacker, chainsaw, lawn edger, etc. 2 cycle engines may be higher power:weight ratio but weight really isn't much of an issue on a land-bound toy versus a flying one.
Then there's the other issue, that unless it's a commercial quality engine (which these certainly aren't at this price point) then a 2 cycle is usually expected to last only 50 to 100 hours before needing rebuilt.
noisy and not a green product
OK, number one. Kings motor bikes has four stroke 49cc engines, commercial grade and EPA certified, the cops don't care about motorized bikes. they have bigger issues. and it comes with an EPA certified catalytic muffler its not a strait pipe like those drop and push gas scooters we see all the time. or the mini rice rockets. besides we all put up with lawn mowers, weed edgers leaf blowers. sure its a temporary annoyance and at best a couple minutes before it goes away. and since most kits require you to pedal your self up to speed usually 4mph or faster before the motor can kick in its classified like the old pedal and engine Zephyrs.but yah you still need a 55$ helmet to appease the helmet Nazi's it still is a human powered bicycle, i'm car-less right now and this is a cheap way for me to make the ten mile round trip to work and back with out sweating my self in to a grave. for you hippies. the two stroke is a bad idea, yes. but their is a four stroke alternative. electric would be nice if they had a kit that cost less than 200$ to get off the floor. motor = 360$ not including batteries. that's another hundred. so for those serious about a gas powered bike. dont bargain hunt. their are quality engines commercially made that still cost around 115$. that you can mount to any 90$ walmart special bike with a standard ten speed or cruiser frame
and for those who want to know, this is california law as of Jan 1/05
What is a moped or motorized bicycle?
* There are two types of motorized bicycles, defined in the California Vehicle Code (VC) Sections 406(a) and 406(b).

* Section 406(b) VC refers to a motorized bicycle as a device that has fully operative pedals for propulsion by human power and has an electric motor that:
o Has a power output of not more than 1,000 watts;
