It is very rare to find a gas lawnmower using 2 cycle engines these days. Even the dirt cheap $100 generics use a (roughly) 3HP, 4 cycle Briggs & Stratton engine, as they have for oh, 20 years or more.
There is a very easy way to tell even if someone knows nothing about engines, that a 4 cycle engine will have an engine oil reservoir, a cap to fill it with oil and usually a dipstick to check that oil level. No 2 cycle engines have separate engine oil, it's always mixed with the gas so the oil cap itself is an indicator even without engine specs.
