This thing will add 20lbs to your bike. #2 Mom already weights more than 10x that.

The environmental impact of this is worse than what you would think for 100 mpg, 2 cycle engines are usually really bad for pollution output, and they usually have no exhaust cleaning systems. Side note, #1 totally got me... wow.

This seems to be a little more trouble than it's worth. Get some exercise and just use the petals for free.

It's easy to tell everyone to "just pedal," but not all of us enjoy showing up to work smelling like we... well, like we just pedaled a few miles to get there. And not all of us have showers to use at work, either.

I think this sort of thing is a great idea. Yes, 2 cycle engines pollute a bit more than modern cars outfitted with emission controls, but honestly, if you can go 50-75 miles on half a gallon of gas, who cares?

This would be nice, but I wonder if you smell like exhaust after riding it.

Just a bad idea altogether. Plus now that gas is cheaper than it was a year ago, how is this relevant?

#2 - The pollution level for this is less than one person driving a car to work and back. And I don't know too many people that can pedal a bicycle at 25-40 mph for long periods.

#5 First of all a 50cc 2 stroke engine creates 40x the amount of Particulate Matter pollution for the same distance traveled when compared to a 3.0l auto, not just "a little bit more". Ad for who cares : I do you dumb bacon, the person who has to breath your muther bakin' bacon .....

#13 you are wrong. The only amount of pollution created by a stroke 50cc engine that is less than a car is the amount of CO2.

If you morons want to ride a motorscooter, then just get a 4-stroke with proper pollution control on it

This is a test. This is only a test. Just how many of you really want to ride your sturdy, protective bicycle around at 35MPH?

I cannot imagine what would happen if you had to stop quickly - or if something stopped you very, very quickly.

((edit just for max speed, per link...;~)

There is a potential bus strike in Dec. in my area. This would be great in the winter for my six mile commute. If only I still had my Schwinn.

I actually saw a guy riding a bike with one of these the other day. What caught my attention was the sound of the loud 2-stroke exhaust. I instantly recognized it and new what it was, but I was sitting there wondering how much extra attention riding one of these would draw to you. The exhaust sounded quite terrible; a guy down the street's Scion Tc with fartbox exhaust sounds better.

#18, i have an electric bike. it is absolutely silent and will do 30. admittedly, the kit cost ten times this much, but it runs off the nuke plant down the street and not petroleum.

id like to think the SILENTness will keep attention to a minimum.

this is a terrible idea. not only is it noisy as all hell, you'll need a moped license in most states.
