I'd almost rather take a bullet than go through owning an Epson again. Had two break on me within a year. Very happy so far with my new HP.
#1 not sure there is a perfectly reliable choice either way, i have owned an epson and an hp. Anyway, anyone have luck with this camera deal before? thanks
This is the third time in four days this printer has shown up. Ben had it posted on the 4th and the 6th for $60, so $30 is a significant improvement in price. In fact, that's right where it was a few months ago when Epson was offering a $70 rebate with the purchase of a digital camera. Looks to me like Epson is anxious to move this line of printers either because they're making a good profit from the ink or are planning to come out with other models. (My bet is on the former.)
Gorgula asked about the rebate, and yes, it sounds like people have no problem getting their money from Epson. I bought one of those worthless keychain cameras to qualify - not surprisingly, it didn't even have a serial number - and got my check promptly. So, assuming you follow all the nitpicking instructions on the rebate form, you should be fine.
curious, which hp did you get jamex? i might be getting sick of the amount of ink epson's use.
Yes, the rebate offer works - I was able to receive my $70 within a month. Since the keychain camera didn't have a serial number, I put down the UPC. I called in to ask [mean/poor customer service... then again, it was the rebate center] and they said putting the UPC instead of the serial should be fine. Hope this helps.
I checked out comments on other deal sites very carefully before going for an Epson rebate several months back, as it involved too much money to take chances with. Only a very few people reported any difficulties, and I got the impression that those who did had simply failed to follow the rebate form directions. Certainly, no one seemed to have any trouble because of the camera lacking a serial number (as No. 5 says, the UPC works fine). So, if you want an Epson or just need a cheap printer, it's an OK deal.
For those who don't already own a scanner, I have to say that I think you'll find this a very useful feature. You can make photocopies to either print or store on your hard drive, and, if you have Windows XP, you'll end up with what amounts to a fax machine by using it in combination with Microsoft's crappy fax utility. (The image quality isn't nearly as good as my old stand-alone Epson Perfection 2450 scanner, but it's OK.)
Still, as I said in a previous post regarding the CX8400, I'm not impressed enough by the print quality to want to keep it for the long term, and I plan to sell mine once I find a good deal on a Canon Pixma or a color laser printer.
Thanks for your further input, i will quit asking questions about the printers now
Oops, put this on the previous ...here is my rant again:
I don't care if this was free...do a quick epson class action lawsuit search...regarding the ink this line drinks like a fish, shuts down when ANY ONE cartridge is "empty" (epson's definition of empty) and clogs up like a constipated old man, which is great for epson because the head cleaning function sucks down about 10 % from each cartridge...simply a vehicle for epson to foist upon you their over-priced ink...
I could go on...avoid Epson...avoid like the plague
