I have one...great photo printer, and terrific scanning; however, the cost of new ink is actually higher than buying this entire unit. Only in America...

Word, #1, except buy bulk ink and blank carts and fill your own, ink becomes super cheap. I used the kit from printonadime in my R340 until it died of non-ink-related causes. I'll be getting a kit from them for my RX959. Around $65 for 4oz of each color, ends up around $1.25 per filled cart over the life of the kit.

I have this one in one of my offices. Ink relative to other printers (HP's, in particular) is pretty cheap, and good quality refills on ebay are about $2 each in bulk. Still more than the printer...you're right. But all printers are like that.

#1 - Buy one of these for the ink and throw the printer out.

#2, I would NOT suggest using bulk ink for anybody. It does damage printers, and print quality is almost always worse than the genuine ink. I suggest ebay for genuine ink. Just try to make sure you get it fom someone reputable, and not from Hong Kong. Genuine ink there is about half the price or better than retail.

If you bought this crap, make sure you never turn it off or you'd have to keep buying new ones just to get their inks.

I second that - 3rd party ink is the pits. I used to use it, but the yellow would turn brown right in the tank. Never had that problem with OEM. The prints wouldn't last long either.

And that's coming from the world's biggest cheapskate. I'd sooner eat out of dumpsters than buy generic English Muffins, toilet paper, or 3rd party ink (and the way the economy is going, I'll even have to wait in line to do that soon).

Bulk ink guy here. My experience does not match the statements of #s 5 & 7. That said, there is crappy bulk ink and good bulk ink, if you get crappy ink, I guess you could get crappy results.

#8, I suggest you do a side by side comparison if you really want to see the reason not to buy generic ink. It's cheap for a reason.

The company I work for decided they were going to save money and buy refillable kits. Within two months, vurtually every printer using the inks developed problems that were directly related to the ink.

We decided to do the comparison as well, and were surprised of the difference. The generic photo looked just fine... until you compared it to the one that was printed with genuine ink. It was then that we saw the colors were off, and the picture wasn't sharp.

I have been posting this deal on fatbacon for two weeks, I bought the RX595, and RX680 and noone cared, I listed it, you can also but a continuous ink system for it from Ebay for $40, I have two of those now also it's awsome, 21oz of ink for $40 with the system.

I'm using the bulk ink on one printer with the CISS tanks for basic stuff and dvd/cd prints, and using the epson ink on the other for photos. 2 sets of epson ink for $84 and $55 with printers rx680 and rx595, you can't buy the ink for that cheap.

#9, like I said, it depends on your ink. I have been using bulk ink since 2000 without any harm to any printer, my oldest one is a Canon S9000 that's now almost 8 years old. I have done side by side comparisons of prints using OEM and bulk ink, and they are virtually identical in terms of color saturation, and close enough as to the actual colors. If you want exact color matching you can always get a printer/paper/ink profile made. As I said before, there's crap ink out there and good ink. I will agree with you that the easiest and safest (but much more expensive) choice is to use the OEM inks.
