Walmart has the Exergen Temporal Thermometer for $30 + shipping. Shipping is $1; free site-to-store pickup at most locations. Captures naturally emitted heat from forehead and takes 1000 readings per second, selecting the most accurate. Includes 9V battery. [Compare]

    "takes 1000 readings per second, selecting the most accurate" - I would think it shows you average not the most accurate reading.

    #3 averaging doesn't always work since their are outliers that screw up the reading.

    I don't have this one, but a cheap CVS version and I can say it works like a charm, especially on the kids where both a traditional oral, 5 second digital oral, and ear thermometer have been a total disaster in terms of getting an accurate measurement. I can even get a good reading if the kids are asleep.

    #3, it could display the median reading, which would be the most accurate reading. Its the same, but different.
