Holy crap is Fallout boring. I have been playing Fallout 3 for the last few months and it started out slowly with a few interesting moments. Then it finally got so tedious and repetitive that I stopped playing without finishing the game.
Fallout has always been a totally "open" game. You can go anywhere in the world, do quests or don't depending on how you feel. Because of the open aspect of the game people either love it or hate it, doesn't seem to be much middle ground. Personally I enjoyed Fallout 1,2, and 3. I haven't played New Vegas yet since I haven't wanted to pay for "more of the same" as Fallout 3.
If you think Fallout is boring then you might be boring. The game is what you make of it, but there is plenty of story and action to make up for a serious post-apocalyptic immersion. New Vegas is similar to Fallout 3, but different enough to make it worth playing. However, the errors and freezes are what I hate about this game, although I don't know about the ps3 version. I stopped playing New Vegas on PC because of constant crashes.
From what I have read about the PS3 version it sounds like patches have helped to fix a lot of the original problems.
#5, I play Fallout 3 on the Xbox and it has never crashed on me. However, I did get stuck once due to a bug in the game and had to revert to a previously saved game.
#6, I may be boring but the game is even more boring. The fun and interesting moments in the game are too far apart IMO.

Welcome to Falloutcom. You can do anything you want. The only limit is yourself.
Have they fixed all the bugs that cause the game to freeze every 5 minutes yet?

I am glad you came out of the basement. Next you need to come out of the closet.
