this drive is awesome. i got it last time it was on sale for $90 AR. It's nearly silent, only gets slightly warm, and power saves when not in use.
Sorry, but running a drive in a fanless case is just BEGGING for trouble.
there are couple two many rebates for me
#2, I have 3 ext. drives. they're all fanless. been running for more than 4 years. they're fine. and I know of at least 3 other people who have fanless ext. drives. they're all fine. drives are power-down when they're not active. They should be fine.
How many rebates are there? I lost count! I can't handle more than 1 rebate/item.
What drives dont shutdown and save power? Its called power management and been around for years..
3 rebates only? Nah, I'll wait for one that has 5 rebates.
I'm also swearing off of rebates. Just plain tired of the hassle.
A lot of cheap, external boxes don't spin the drive down at all. power management is controlled by the os and cheap external boxes don't have an os - just a controller chip.
Good gracious. A rebate for free shipping? What is this, Sears?
looks like a good price.
Seems that tax is added ($10.50), but still a nice deal!
I've got an old WD drive that I put in a box and the fan went out a LOOONNGG time ago.
I'll admit, I'm a little concerned. But it's still going...
The case was cheap so I don't think it has any power management going on.
I am wondering how these fanless designs will hold up under a LOT of use - say 12 hours a day playing video content, editing video content, etc.
I had one with a fan that did not last more than a year using it for video editing jobs.
Do I get a rebate for filling out all the BS rebate's? Because that would be useful.
I bought this drive a few months ago. I've had no problems with it so far. $80 is a pretty good deal if you take the time to do the rebates.
I just got it from buy.com and it's great so far. Plug and play and transferred data smooth, quick and easy. I'm happy.
