There's lots of markup on these. If want a tele, or a strat, go down to your local dealer (preferably one who buys a lot of inventory like Guitar Center) and negotiate a deal. Back in '93 I got an $800 American Standard Stratocaster for $500.
GC is a lot more corporate than back in the 90's. I bought a few things a like amp and pedals from them pretty recent and they don't really deal. They threw in a few warranties and acessories but not a real cut in price. But depending on the store, they have a pretty good decent array of used gear.
