I never saw this series. What network was it on? SIFI?? I'm getting to the point where I wont watch series anymore. They never finish the damn things and leave you hanging. As if they don't know when they are going to kill them. Can't they throw together a couple of episodes to give it a graceful end and closure? TV is just a delivery system for commercials and they don't give a rats ass about the viewers. Glad I have a DVR to blast through their commercials and give them some payback.

It was originally aired on Fox, which canned the series for not being sufficiently cookie-cutter.

Personally I'm really looking forward to services like iTunes taking over the episodic TV market. Who needs networks?

I watched this show when it aired on FOX. I was a huge Buffy fan and was drooling over the previews of Firefly long before it came out. Then it came... and went and I can't say that I was too dissapointed. The show had some endearing characters and the trademark Whedon witty dialog, but the plots were very mundane and the science was silly. Overall, I thought that it was a rather average sci-fi show. Granted, given more time, it could have developed into something better. You people that claim that it was "the bestest show evar!" and other such nonsense are insane.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it funny and ironic when someone who is a self-proclaimed "huge Buffy fan" calls the science of Firefly "silly"?

Madcow, you are spot on about buffy fans. as for the science it is about as realistic as a scifi can get. Plots are great in that they did not even get to the second or third season slumps. As for Fox, they are Serial good series killers. Strange Luck and Sliders come to mind as good premises which get killed after a fox executive input session. Sliders was on life support after the 1st season. I don't know how x-files ever survived. The simpsons only lasted because of the fact that fox was so disorganized at first and when it became a hit they could not mess with it.

Firefly in a nutshell is a sci fi show from a libertarian, anti government, wild west viewpoint. With alot of fun moments.

Umm... Buffy wasn't a science fiction show and didn't take place 500 years in the future. It was a neogothic fantasy fairytale. Firefly, on the other hand, was a very misguided sci-fi show. That whole country western baconnaise in it was annoying as burp, along with the theme song. The cow-fairing episode made me cringe like nothing else. I knew the science in the show would be lame when in one of the first episodes, they showed a flashback to the civil war, where Mal was defending a planet from an invasion with a WW2 era 20 mm AA cannon. I was like "These things were terrible at shooting down WW2 piston aircraft and are completely useless against modern jet fighters. How are they going to shoot down futuristic space fighters?"
