Blockbuster.com has their online rental service $10 for your first month, then $19.99 per month. You get unlimited online rentals (3 out at a time) with free shipping, no return dates. You also get 5 in-store movie exchanges/month.

Yeah.. Screw this company. They turned me into a collection agency for a fraudulent eleven dollar and change late fee. And that was just after the class action lawsuit.. Then shortly after they started their "no late fee campaign." And for their idiocy and all the crap I had to go through, I was compensated with a free rental. -_-

BB sucks, they had something good going until they tried to raise the price on loyal customers.

I had Netflix and then decided to give Blockbuster a try... I'm back with Netflix now.

Blockbuster sucked. I think they had one copy of the new releases so it took forever to get a popular movie. Even the movies they had in stock were tough to get. If I picked a movie that was a little obscure they would often skip over it and pick movies lower down in my list. The only way to get the movie I wanted was to empty out my list and that would force them to send out the movie I wanted. I guess they couldn't be hassled trying to find the movie I wanted otherwise.

    Go with Netflix.

    Go to hell Block Cluster.
They are only sending me 2 at a time for the last month. Then 1 to 3 days later they send the 3rd one. This is after the second price hike in two months. They don't list all the new releases on the website in the category search, so you must do a specific search for the title. They send me grungy movies I have to clean and some still won't play. They take up to three business days now to send out movies once you return them at the store or they receive them in the mail. If you get a damaged movie, and report it that day, their system often says "Sorry, this movie is still on its way." which prevents you from getting a replacement sent out. So the next day when it will allow you to report the issue, they still wait about 2-3 days to send you another movie.
I have complained so much to them with no results, so it is time for them to kiss my ass goodbye. Hello Netflix and bacon. BB will be going outy of business soon when they lose enough customers from their crap service.

Same with me, Kaver. Went to BB for the in-store free rentals, but they decided to limit that. And whatever algorithm they use for their queue - it sucks. I would have 20 movies listed as "available" in my queue, and get sent #21. Netflix is much better

Wow I had netflix at one time but dropped it since I wasn't watching much TV any more. Was thinking about going back to the online renting again and maybe try BB since you could return to store and get games. Maybe I will just wait.

#4, you get one free game rental a month via ecoupon. #10, you can't return to the store to get games... only movies.

Netflix turn around time in the 3 different places I've lived has never exceeded 2-3 days. Netflix all the way.

As much as I hate Comcast, I have been using OnDemand rather than going to BB or an online service. Tried Netflix for a while, but found I wasn't watching enough movies regularly to warrant the cost. Probably great for a college kid, though...

Blockbuster has a lot of hubs where they ship their online rentals from. If they have your 10th selection in stock at your local hub, but your 1st selection is only in stock at a more remote hub, they actually prioritize for you based on how long a title will take to reach you. That is why you may have titles showing as available that get passed over for titles lower in your queue. They need to create a feature where you can choose to lock a title so that it ships no matter where it comes from. I'd rather wait an extra day for a movie I really want than get an inferior title more quickly.

Before joining, you should contact their customer service to see if you live close to a hub. If not, check Netflix and see if they have one closer to you.

Other than that and the recent rate hikes, they've been pretty reliable. Titles generally get turned around both directions in 1-2 days. In 2 1/2 years I've only had about 10 unplayable movies and you can report them and get a new one shipped the next day. If you've got a lot of catching up to do on your movie watching, I would suggest the BB deal with unlimited in-store exchanges. If you just want the convenience of movies in the mail and a good price, go with Netflix.

I had Netflix for a year, but switched to Blockbuster due to severe throttling by Netflix.
I live about 10 miles from each of their hubs, so 4-7 day turn around sucks.

During Oct/Nov/Dec Blockbuster sucked. Had a 2 week period where they would never send me the 3rd disk.
Complained 3 times & was told each time to go to the web site and report that I return the disk. Of course there is no selection that says “I returned the disk at the store & your web site says I returned the disk so quit stalling send me my next &!#@ disk”. So now when they don't ship the next day, I just go to their web site & select that I returned the disk by mail & they ship a new disk out the next day Smile If they complain, I'll just tell them that is what their support people told me to do 3 separate times!

I still have unlimited store returns for $19.99, but if they raise my price again, or limit my store returns, I'll probably switch back to Netflix.

I have had both. Blockbuster has really gone down hill since they changed the in-store policy, used to love renting 3 movies a day then getting 3 more a few days later. I think in one month of graveyard shifts I must have rented like 30 from the in-store and 40 from on-line.

They send the next disc that is closest to you to get it there faster. I had an odd movie on the top for like 2 weeks, sent them in e-mail and they sent it out ASAP as a 4th DVD and gave me a free coupon for a DVD. They did get the "sets" right, where you can get them all at once. I hated when I would try to watch a series and get the 3rd disc first.

You may be 20 feet from a hub, but not all the movies are at that hub, usually the really popular ones are there, they get what you send back then return them to where they "belong". My friend works for netflix and she said they ship out about 500 DVD's a day back to a "central hub" that distributes them to the correct place.... what a pain.

Red box is way better. $1 per movie per night till 9pm plus they always give free coupons every week for one free movie. Only thing is they are hard to find in some areas. Luckly one is a block away from my house.

Been a long time BB user and loving it. The in store coupons are great for gamers.
