I signed up with FreedomPop. One thing I will warn people about is to check the maps before buying. The web page said my residence was covered, so then they sold me this hotspot. Unfortunately, this Photon hotspot only works in Wi-Max areas (doesn't fall back on 3G, either). The only 4G LTE device they sell is ~$200. Otherwise it sounds like it could be a good service.

Where does it say it's "$0/month for 500MB of data"? The terms doesn't mention it:

Casual 2GB - 100% FREE for the first month. This trial is only available for a limited time. You can cancel your trial anytime on site or by calling customer support. You'll continue to receive 2 GB every month for only 17.99 after your trial period expires.

FreedomPop Premier - 100% FREE for the first month. After first month you will continue to receive FreedomPop Premier every month for $9.99 after your trial period expires. Cancel anytime on the site or by calling customer support.

Your subscription begins when you click Activate. Cancel service by contacting support. By clicking Activate, you authorize FreedomPop to charge the Monthly Total provided above at the beginning of each subscription period. You can change your plan at anytime. See Terms of Use for subscription details.

To get free 500MB service, call FreedomPop and cancel, thus they will tell you that you will be put on the free plan.
The coverage is horrible, as it uses Sprint, the worst cellphone company. When calling to cancel, do not expect to get a customer service rep, but immidiately chose option to leave your phone number for a callback. The two times I did this they called me back in a moderate amount of time.

We offer a Free 500MB plan that is actually the basis of our Freemium internet service. In the first and last portion of our terms before checkout, it is indicated that you can cancel your trial and then downgrade to our free service at anytime.

We're sorry to hear that you had a bad experience trying to contact our customer service desk. We do sometimes have really high call volumes, but we absolutely recommend using the call back option so you don't have to wait on the line and it looks like that worked for you. We're currently ramping up our team 4x to accommodate better call and email wait times.

4G WiMAX is limited to metropolitan areas, but our coverage map is provided to us by Sprint and Clear. The Photon is 4G WiMAX only but we offer 4G/3G devices and LTE devices too

I'll jump in and say while i did have a very frustrating start, I love the service. in my case it defaulted to free, I accidentally signed up for the FreedomPop Security or something. So I called, they canceled for me, didn't charge me at all. At this point I have paid nothing but the Groupon $25 or $30 it was, and I have a 4G hotspot in my car that I can use if I need access on the road.

That they give enough of a **** to be on here bodes pretty well too.

FreedomPop: Can you provide the link to ordering the LTE device? The only device it is offering me is the Overdrive Pro. Thank you.
