REI has the Garmin Forerunner 405 Heart Rate Monitor for $350 - $50 rebate = $300 with free in-store pickup. Shipping option is $14. Features GPS receiver, touch bezel, chest-strap heart rate monitor, detailed workout data.
Damn that's expensive. Hint: You probably don't need the GPS feature.
300 bucks for this thing to tell me how tired I am...sign me up!
Garmin 405 is intended for runners, joggers, walkers, and yes you most definitely need the GPS. Saw it here for $211 http://www.universalmania.com/product.asp?pf_id=010-00658-20
Do not waste your $$$. Not only does #1 make a great point but I have not had a heart monitor yet that has not broken or been lost within a year and a half of buying it. These things are disposable and should be priced that way.
Maybe the header should say "FOR RUNNERS ONLY".A very high percentage of serious or even recreational runners own a GPS watch. For a runner, a cheap find or better deal for the Garmin is worthwhile information. Agree not a good find for a person in the gym working out.As for the heart monitor ,for serious runs that a runner may want to elevate to his heart rate zone or even track for latter analysis. My heart sensor still works after three years and I don't think I intend on loosing it.
so this thing has maps and turn-by-turn directions?
