This is temping as earlier this year I bought a 765T to supplement my 2730. Then the touch part of the 2730's screen failed and the 765 became my primary GPS.

Yeah, free updates of public map data! What a bunch of rip-off artists.
Yeah... then update map and the "Lifetime" Traffic Updates *instantly* becomes expired.
Or, download free maps off the nefarious sites (forum.mobilism.org) and use the easy to perform hacks to stay current. Works great for me, just updated my TomTom.

#3, no matter there are free map resources for NAVTEQ to draw upon, the act of collecting those and correcting errors is far from trivial. Nokia recently paid $8.1 billion for NAVTEQ, who sources Garmin's maps.
