I got this and love it. I have many others because rather than updating the maps, I would just get a new one. I would give the older ones to my friends. Now I will keep this one for a while because of lifetime maps. I still hav a bunch of them though. Sometimes when I go on a long trip, i will line them up on the dashboard and program them with different ways to go, (quickest, shortest, fastest, and so on). It looks like a jet airliner carrotpit. Of course the volume is muted on all but one.
The bluetooth feature competes with my bluetooth headset. I tried to resolve the issue but ended up turning off bluetooth on GPS.
I got this unit last Christmas as a replacement for my aging SteetPilot 2610. The 1490 is a BIG improvement (bigger screen, clearer text, etc.) over the 2610 which itself was no slouch.
The LMT means free map and traffic updates. Map updates seem to be made available every 3 months and the process of downloading (over a DSL line) and installing the updates takes about 4 hours lapse time. The "price" for the free traffic updates is advertizements that popup when the car is stopped. The popups are not distracting but they can be annoying as I consider them to be an invasion of my privacy.
One downside of the 1490 compared to the 2610 is that the 1490's screen brightness does not auto adjust. The 2610 screen brightness would auto dim in the evening to remain visible but not distract.

All things considered, the 1490 is a great GPS.
#2 There is an Auto Setting under Tools to change the screen brightness between day and night.
