All the nuvi's are great. But I've seen newer models like the 650 at around the same price.

#2, why are you waiting for the TomTom's to go on sale. The Garmins are much better.

#4 How are the Garmins better then TomTom's? I am looking into purchasing one of these for my dad and get mixed reviews on both.

I have the 200, and I like it, even though it's a little basic (doesn't say street names). I paid $97 for it on BF, and I'm not sure that this is worth 50% extra for the extra screen space.

Tomtom doesn't tell you which side of street is your destination.

Garmins are almost always rated higher than the TomToms. In fact, I believe the top four GPS units are all Garmin. I just bought the 780 from Bestbuy for $270, and I love it. It retails for $600 most everywhere else.

I gave one to my mother for Christmas last year, and who is not technologically savy by any streatch of the imagination was using it right out of the box. She doesn't go anywhere without it now. On the other hand, her sister (my aunt) was given a TomTom for Christmas, and she finds it very difficult to use.

Here is a good resource for GPS units:

I love my Garmin and it is an older model. Maybe Santa will "upgrade" my old one

This would be better with free realtime traffic.

Is there an immediate expense for maps? Do you have to buy an annual update?
