This model has been discontinued by Garmin. Amazon had them a few weeks ago for $99, expect to see other sellers dumping them cheaper than this. There's nothing wrong with this model, it is actually very nice.
The reason it is discontinued is because it includes MSN Direct for the gas prices, traffic, weather, etc. Microsoft has announced that MSN Direct is ending January 1, 2012.
The MSN Direct receiver is not actually built into the Garmin, but is a box on the power cable that attaches to the Garmin's USB port. I sold the MSN Direct cable on FleaBay for $40, and just kept the Garmin 285WT unit running on a plain USB power cable.
thx for the info #1..
It is still a good deal considering the fact that there is still 1 year and 9 months of service for the price it is going for. If it is under $100 i might pick up one
#2, this unit only comes with 9 months of MSN Direct, after that you'll still have to pay a monthly fee for the last 12 months of service. Better to wait for a good deal on a 255W or 265W if you want bluetooth or a 255WT/266WT if you also want free traffic.
Bought Nuvi 755T with lifetime traffic for $160 shipped from superbiiz.com
