Good : It plays MP3 (missing on all the newer models) and it has a powered mount (no need to disconnect USB cable when you unmount it to remove from car.
Bad : Just about everything else. Screen is dim and hard to read in light, randomly reboots / hangs on me, many UI quirks (that you may not encounter if you don't use custom POI).
I have 5 Nuvis, this is my least favorite model.
One could also say the powered mount is bad because they are expensive to buy a spare or replacement.
As a GPS I prefer my 1490 to my similar-tbaconhis 765 but the 765 has somethings going for it such as MP3 player and external mic/speaker jack which the 1490 lacks.
I had a Nuvi 700 series GPS that had a bad powered mount, even though it was over 2 years old, Garmin replaced it no questions asked... I just bought a new GPS, but was annoyed that I couldn't find one that had MP3 capabilities... Oh well, I have a radio anyway...
