decent price for this, the traffic is worth feature on this is good, but i really son't know if you would need the lane merger feature.... figure if you take a wrong turn, it will redirect you the right way
Looking for a good deal on this unit, is this the absolute best price.
Well, as someone who owns and has used the 775T (same thing but also includes European maps) for a few months, I really like it. I have an "old" 2730 and while that's a pretty good unit, this one is better.
The sad thing is that the maps and traffic were better in Southern Germany and Northern Austria than Utah... I rarely see posted speed limits, but EVERY street I was on had a speed limit in Germany (and the European maps I have haven't been updated, so they're 2009 maps.) However, traffic is a mixed bag. It always seems like 1 of two things occurs: 1) You get warned about traffic as you hit it, or 2) It's a false alarm. I've been driving at 10pm and had traffic show up ahead, only to find out there was construction going on during the day (apparently) but absolutely zero traffic. But hey, it's free, and the ads aren't that obtrusive.
As to the lane assist: Again, I don't think I've ever seen it activate in the USA (I haven't left Utah with this GPS yet.) However, it was amazingly useful around Munich and in a couple of places around Stuttgart.
The speakerphone via bluetooth actually works (though not so well in my convertible due to road noise through the fabric top) to the point that you can use it and people can hear you if your car is somewhat quiet. I was considering a BT speakerphone for my wife's car, but this works well enough.
I think my favorite thing about the 775t over older Garmin units is that it (finally) will automagically go to the map without any human input as you start driving. It's incredibly stupid that older Garmins don't do that.
This is a great price for the 765t. At this price, I would have bought one of these and then added the Euro maps.
Just my 2¢.
#2: according to PriceTracer (and I've been monitoring this model for the past couple of weeks now) the current Buy.com price of $179.99 w/ free shipping is is the best price I've seen; refurbished (which this Target model doesn't claim to be) or not.
Study carefully the warranty offered on refurbished units. Generally all one gets is "whatever is remaining from the original purchase, and only if the warranty is transferable."
If Garmin was doing the refurbishment then perhaps one would get a good warranty and assurance that all the accessories and documentation is included.
--- double post (sorry) ---
It's $199.99 now in Amazon no tax, free shipping.
It was 209.99 this morning and reduced to $199.99 now.
In my state, $189+Tax > 199.99
I've had two 765T units and had no trouble with either one, and would recommend it to anyone.
Some people complain about the built in speaker's volume, but my hearing is not exactly perfect and I have no trouble hearing it, even with the stereo turned up to a comfortably loud level. I don't think you can find a new 765T for a better price anywhere else at the moment.
The map this uses is not perfect, but pretty close. For some inexplicable reason some rural streets don't even show up, whereas even more rural streets do. This is in the Ontario County area of NYS. But all in all, the map is very complete and accurate.
The traffic feature, frankly, has been useless for me, at least in the Rochester NY area. It frequently warns of high traffic on 490 when there isn't any.
If you get this, I highly recommend the "bean bag" mounting unit. It's available on Amazon in two versions, one without the hard-to-open packaging (cheaper), and one with. It's definitely worth the price.
With tax for me in TX, this came out to $215. I bought it off of Buy.com for $210 the other day, free shipping
agree with #7, ordered from Amazon.com for $199.99 with no tax and shipping... there's also a 50% off on accessories with Amazon.com... which make this a sweeter deal than Target.
This is a good price and a good GPS. Bought one 3 wks ago from Amazon for $250. Needed it for a trip and couldn't wait for blackfriday deals. Have used it in St. Louis and DC and the lane guidance worked great and was very useful. I think that this feature is available only for bigger cities. Agree c #8 and get the mounting unit. Volume is loud enough and I have on 50%. Did not find the traffic feature very usefull as it did not show any of the traffic that I was in for hours in central DC, and heading out of MD last night. My previous GPS was TomTom XL and I like this one much better.
This is a pretty good GPS and it's selling at a really low price for not being refurbished.
