No 7/8 kills the deal.
Chances are that you already have a set of open-end/box combo wrenches. A better buy is Sears' set of ratcheting box wrenches, different size on each end (like 1/2 and 9/16), but highly offset and reversible. Those sets of 5 wrenches go on sale for $20 every so often - highly recommended.
IMO metric is more useful if you want to work on cars.

#2, are these the ones designed by a moron to where you have to turn them over to ratchet in the other direction? You know, like when you are in restricted space and back out a bolt too far and now can't get the box end wrench off and you can't tightened it back down?
