Talk about a blast from the past. I just watched Ed O'Neill on the last episode of The Unit, too!

TheBS - what do you make of some of the reports of performance below that of the 7900GT? Immature driver? For the proprietary renderer that I use at work, I've found that the 8800GTX has problems dealing with a large # of polygons. In this case, the 7900GT actually outperforms the 8800GTX. In all other instances, I see nearly a 85% increase over the 79000GT. Weird...

"Wow your so cool bluesdealer did you score 4 touchdowns for polk high?"

Actually, one of our receivers is now one of the top NCAA receivers in the nation, and linebacker is a defensive position so of course I didn't score any touchdowns, douche. Regardless, don't mistake it for bragging; I wasn't a star by any means. I'm just saying that, if you are going to insult someone, at least don't do it based on a stereotype, because you'll most likely just reveal your own ignorance.

BACK ON TOPIC: I've read that this card's drivers for Vista aren't ready yet, so it might be wise to wait for either Nvidia to put out, or ATI's *erm.. AMD's* offering this January. On the other hand, this deal does rock

TheBS, Why would you tell someone to get a 7600 video card? unless they are going to run it SLI. I wouldnt go less than a 7900 series video card in SLI mode for some of todays games.

If you need something "just for now," go for a sub-$100 7600GT or near-$50 7600GS. If you want to get within 25-50% of the 8800, the sub-$150 7900GS is quite a buy too. Wait for the G81+.
The 7900GS gets within 25% of the top cards at lower-res (1280x1024 or lower) and 50% of the top cards at higher-res/FSAA (1600x1200+).

So if money is an object, pay less than $150 now to get a "decent" card and then pay $300 in less than 6 months to get far better performance than what $550 buys you today!
