$45 is way over priced. these typically go for $22-26 on ebay. i purchased one for $22 about a month ago.
worth every penny for recording the bad drivers that like to drive aggressively around you and might hit your car.
since its inside the car behind the windshield, turn off IR illumination to prevent IR reflection.
I disagree that you can get these for $22 on ebay. You can find other similar like it but feature wise I think this one is a better buy. The one I bought for $20+ had horrible audio and you cannot turn the LCD screen which is a huge minus. I am going to purchase this one.
If you have to turn it on before the accident, are you planning to have/cause one so it'll be recorded?
Same argument when you turn your bluetooth on to pair your phone with headset or putting your seatbelt. Best practice turn it on before you drive off. Common sense. This device is turned on and left alone before car goes in motion. Speaking of motion, this DVR records on motion detection so if you are stuck in traffic in midtown manhattan the recording will stop but once something moves in front (e.g pedestrians crossing, bikers, homeless man asking for change), like magic it will start recording.
It turns on automatically when you start your car's power. I have four looking in every direction. And can record constantly without the motion detector.
BTW this is not HD is just 640x480 upscaled.
It won't be long till the government mandates all new cars have these installed from the factory, among other babysitting measures.
Be careful recording any encounter with law enforcement. In IL they used an old law that was supposed to protect average citizens from illegal recording against a woman who recorded an encounter with internal affairs cops trying to bully her not to sue the cops. Thankfully the appeals court overturn the law and found it unconstitutional.
