They recharge best if you shake the flashlight while holding it just below your belt buckle.

The beam isn't very powerful on these. But if you just want a servicable emergency flashlight it might be worth it.

These are mostly a novelty. The neat thing is the capacitor that has the charge induced by the moving coil/magnet. The charge in the capacitor is lost after the light sits for a short time.

We have two we rec'd as gifts, and they both suck - require at least 60s of shaking to get about 10s of dim light. A cell phone, cig lighter, Indiglo watch, etc. is much better light.

"100 minutes of continuous bright light" LOL. I have one of these. It's fine in a pinch, but no way would anyone ever use this as an everyday flashlight. It's dull and it doesn't last very long between shakes. The emergency flashlight with the crank handles work slightly better. Buy.com also sells those.

C'mon, this is just too easy.
Using shake and crank in the same sentence. You are setting yourself up.

This is counter-intuitive. When I shake in this fashion, I want it to be dark.
