What do you mean by "regular external usb hd"?
This drive is a notebook HDD, inside a USB 2.0 enclosure. The nice thing about the notebook drives is that you can run them full powered off the USB port so you only need a USB cable, no bulky power adapters.
If you plug it into a computer it will just appear as a normal removal drive.
Bought a 320 simpletech from office depot on clearance for $75.
