Listening to my SR80's now. These headphones sound great, but they have a fair amount of sound leakage for you cube farmers.

I don't think they deserve their reputation. I bought SR80s many years ago based on the reviews, hoping the sound quality would make up for the shortcomings (dorky look, uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time, poorly fitted foams). Unfortunately, it pales in comparison with Sennheisers in the same price range. The Grado sounds pleasant, but it just doesn't offer the kind of detail an accuracy you get from the Sennheisers, which are also much better made.

disagree. grado's are superior to the sennheisers. SR60s are one of the best/cheapest cans you can get. but yes they are open air so people around you will be able to hear the high ends leaking out (i still used it at work for awhile before i sold it to some girl)

disagree with #2 also. Sennheisers are way overrated. I've had a few pairs of each brand, and I always end up returning the Sennheisers. Grados are by far the better choice in standalone setups.

Awesome head phones...major probem is you cant sit next to a person, they will hear the music. But if you like to listen to music at home, this is awesome. After about 2 or 3 hours they become a bit uncomfortable. I have had one for about 2 years, use it every day for almost a year and still in perfect condition including the pads. They look old like 1960's but its the sound....They have a "live" sound. I had a pair of decently rated head phones for about 100 bucks. the Grados blow them away.

I sort of agree and disagree with #2 - I have a pair of sennheiser hd280s and while they sound nice and are comfortable the build quality royally sucks, but somehow the duct tape makes them less dorky looking so maybe it's for the better...

I have the SR60's, have used them every day for about 3 years. The sound is solid, they are a sturdy build, and they do a good job of blocking ambient noise in the office. This is a good price for high quality. But as #2 and #5 note, if you have sensitive ears, these probably aren't the ones for you. They are really snug, to the point they get uncomfortable after an hour or two. If you are shopping for a pair to use hours at a time, I'd suggest finding a B&M store where you can try on some models and see what you really like. Otherwise, be prepared check out the return policy.

The senns are fairly nice, but they do not serve the same purpose. These really aren't all that great for "listening to music." These are much better suited for a studio setting. Just like...you wouldn't use studio monitors to hook up to your home stereo. Senns are like Bose...they color the sound so that it makes s finished CD sound the "best." While we may differ on what we consider "the best" I think for most people, the Grados aren't the best choice. I have the 80s, and I don't use them for listening to music from my stereo. I use 'em at the mixing board.

#9, you're crazy if you think Sennheiser's color the sound like Bose... The 280's are the only Sennheisers with any coloration at all, and that is because of the closed-back design. Anything in the HD-500 and 600 series are about as true as headphones can get.

    #9, Studios generally don't use open-backed headphones.
