WOW! If only there was a tuner built-in or an IR blaster that could change digital cable channels at appropriate times. Last I read, you had to manually start and could time the duration of recordings after changing to the channel you wanted to record.
According to reviews, the captured quality cannot be differentiated from the source material. Sweet! That's both HD and BlueRay content.
Requires the three component out RGB cables, not HDMI.
Anyone know of a TiVo-like media capture solution for this hardware? I'm not so interested in devoting an entire PC to recording from this device.
GB-PVR and SageTV support this box. Both provide Tivo-like functionality. Pick up a cheap MCE remote w/blaster, and use free tools like EventGhost and Hip to blast your cable/sat box.
I have been very happy with my Hauppage TV tuner cards. Their software is terrible. But the hardware is great and doesn't require using their software to run it.
This includes a remote and an IR blaster. Works great with the latest drivers and SageTV. The remote is not that great, you will probably want to get a different one.
Except for the fact that it overheats and hangs every couple of hours, then has to be hard booted to get back to normal. I returned the one I bought after a week of frustration and missed recording. Updated drivers, everything, it still sucked.

There is one thing I'm unclear on...what about copy protection? Is it safe to assume that since input is by component, you can capture "any" HD signal without worrying whether it will record?
This thing caps vids at very good quality but it's still expensive. for sure it's the best capture device out there but it's probably only good for people who record video games

Lowest price. Was $165 last week.
Hauppage makes junk.
lol at #4. Hauppage is the biggest name in highest quality TV tuner cards.

I did some research and went ahead and ordered one of these. From what I've been reading these are great for HTCP's using windows 7 or MythTV.
