I have this. It works as advertised. I used it to backup Bluray Movies from a PS3.

Due to my bad experiences with Hauppauge HD video cards, I will not buy this.

No HDMI out. Just Component I/O. Wouldn't it be easier just to have HDMI I/O?

Can't have HDMI input because HDMI is required to enforce protections; component is not.

Non-guru asks: Are you recording in HD as in 1080i or 1080p and then playing back in analog? We have a great Phillips 47in and a Magnovox Blue Ray DVD player with Direct TV. It would be nice to be able to record some shows without paying Direct TV for their DVR service every month.

It re-encodes the analog output rather than making a bit-for-bit digital copy of the original and it can't record any video source's output at 1080P (e. g. sat/cable STBs, PS3s, or other Blu-ray disc players). Per Hauppauge specs, the maximum recording resolution is up to 1080i from the component video (YCrCb) input. The video input format determines the recorded format e. g. 1080i input records at 1080i, 720P records at 720P, etc...
