POS!!! Got this a couple of week ago and had all sorts of problems with it. The WinTV app is a useless piece of junk. Got the stick working (sorta) with MCE, but it only pulls 3 HD channels. WinTV pulls in 12, but locks up shortly after startup at times. I don't recommend this product. Oh, and don't forget, this is buy.com that sells it. The stingiest online retailer ever. God forbids you have to return smth to them ... I HATE BUY.COM. I love Amazon and Newegg!!! They rock!!!

I have this one, and it's not too bad - but it sure ain't great.

The software is almost complete rubbish - you need to install the disk that comes with it and only then can you install the updates. You will want the updates. Even with them, you'll get weird scaling/bizarre dimensions on some channels and I have yet to get recording to work reliably.

This is my only tv solution - and it's not bad since it does a good job of playing standard and HD channels. But if you want a real solution, you're going to want to go elsewhere. I got this for $30 during black friday - and that's about all you'll want to pay for it.

As far as software, you might want to try GBPVR with this card. I've been using it for several years with an analog Hauppauge tuner card and it works great. The guy who develops GBPVR works pretty closely with Hauppauge and the software has good support for pretty much the whole Hauppauge product line (although I don't personally have experience with this particular tuner.)

The best thing with GBPVR is that it is donationware. If you like it, PayPal the guy a few bucks. It's well worth it. If it doesn't work for you, you are out zero for trying.

What I'm wondering is when there will be another deal on the 1600 tuner card. I don't think there's been a good deal (<= $60) since before Christmas and I'm wanting one of those to build a media PC. Hopefully soon...

For SURE download the latest driver disk from hauppauge, the newer ones suck a bit less.

And the little antenna that comes with it is only ok if you live right next to the station, hook it up to your best uhf antenna and aim it at the transmitters, ideally through a window.

doesn't do so great with analog signals but does pretty well with digital signals.

You are right #11. After I posted my comments I did a search and saw the 1600 deal you reference. My bad. Not sure how I missed that when it was posted. Might have to make a trip to Circuit City.

The HDHomerun works better than either of these. Dual HD Tuners. Available for all computers on the network. Works great with most DVR software and for viewing with just VLC.
