to watch over the air HDTV broadcast from your city's local TV stations, will not work with satellite or cable TV signal.

I got one of these last week at Circuity City for $60 without any rebates. The Tuner itself works as advertised, but their software REALLY sucks, and I can't stress how MUCH they suck. Their latest software didn't work at all, program just locks up. But you can use third party software like SageTV or BeyondTV software, which really enhances your TV watching experience to match more of what Tivo offers. But those 2 software has a limited free trial period.

To finally get Hauppauge to work, I have to download their beta software first and then install WinTV v6 back on. Their version names and numbers are all screwed up and is very confusing for you to find out which is the latest version you want to download.

You will not get HDTV signal from your cable TV service (no QAM support). It may get some standard definition channels, but not the premium or PPV channels.

It comes with a mini telescopic antenna for you to pick up free channels off the air from your local station's broadcast towers for both SD and HD channels (like NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, Fox, etc.) But you have to be within 10 miles of the towers or else you will need a bigger antenna.

#5 is partly wrong. Besides his maybe not working.

You can hook this to your cable and get the basic cable. Mine gave me 64 channels. It will only get HDTV over the air. And Where I live I can get about 8 HD channels. As for the software it works fine with my HP athlon x2 2GB ram Laptop.

#5 you may have a defective stick, or you just don't have enough computer to run this properly. This stick is SOFTWARE not HARDWARE based. Size of the stick alone, most in the know understand that. So you will need a pretty decent laptop to run this. If you have a desktop, This may not be the best way to go. Get a dedicated card for that.

Overall, got a newer laptop, this is great item. Better than Pinnacle and the other lower end brands. Great for when the power goes out. Now you can still keep up with the outside world.

This was available for about $27 AR on Thanksgiving day from Comp USA itself. Not a great deal.

Although I haven't tried this specific tuner, I've had bad luck with USB tuners. They are choppy even on a Quad core with a 8800GT as a graphics card. I went ahead and installed a standard HD card and voila. The playback was smooth as silk. I think I'm going to stick with PCI or PCI-E HD cards.

      just got the 950.
used a sony ar290g,,slowed it down tremendously.had to pull the plug.restarted, then did work, but jerky video.signal was strong.saved clips using nero as a test, making a data dvd.but would not play back in windows media.did not play back using adobe premiere elements.would not work using nero vision to make a dvd videobacon loaded and played back in ulead studio 11 plus,BUT,frame was off centered(it was 16:9).can not seem to center it,so i dont know if its ulead or hauppauges software.doing video is such a pain,,all across the board.whether its blank discs or finalized discs that work in this or dont work in that.going to try to get my $60 back on hauppauge.
