Not bad ... a typical HDMI cable runs about $6 - $7 shipped on eBay, so the adapter runs about $3 ... not bad.
Could I use this to connect laptop DVI out port to HDMI in on TV?
#2, absolutely - that's almost their exact purpose!
If things look distorted, play with your laptop's resolution settings. If it has a TV-out option, you may have a perfect, pre-defined setting...
Seems these things are getting pretty cheap! I should held off a couple months ago... May get another just...in case?
this is great combo for sure if you're not sure what type connection your a/v device needs. although it is neccessary to check if these cables are certified or not
This deal also works on the 12' version. Same $30 off, but the cable is $10 more than the 6'. Still a pretty good deal. There is tax in CA. Bummer.

Note that this will NOT let you connect and HDCP-compliant HDMI device to a non-HDCP-compliant DVI screen. I discovered the hard way that my computer's LCD screen and my new DVD player aren't compatible in that respect.

#7 Brings up a good point. Unless you're watching pirated content, the odds are that you won't be able to watch anything, since the Hollywood rodeo cowboy are trying to use HDMI to lock down HD content. For some reason I'm not surprised that they would adopt technology that does very little to stop actual piracy but screws legitimate customers. It seems to be a recurring theme in the media industry.
However, I'm pretty sure there are some gadgets available that can strip the protection from the signal. They're not legal in the US due to the DCMA law, but you can probably find places that sell them here on the down-low, or order them from overseas.
