> It does not come with a power cord.
Maybe for a reason?
If you never plug it in, it cannot burn down your house.
Just sayin'.
Also, "Surprisingly positive" reviews?
Here's the first one I can see, although the rest are rather less "surprising":
beware

This user purchased this item from Newegg.com
Pros: The price.
Cons: Even though this PSU supports 550W, stick in a halfway decent card and you'll immediately notice having multiple blue screen crashes within a span of an hour. I pulled out the card and still kept the PSU. Still blue-screened. Its what I get for buying a generic PSU I guess. After being fed up, I pulled this garbage from my PC and stuck in my old 450W FSP PSU.
Other Thoughts: Stay away.
No PCIe connectors, FYI.
Is there a blue button on this? I need to know because CompWiz17 says only buy a PS with blue buttons.
Total 14 reviews and 11 at 5 stars- only one 1 star is listed above. I am not sidding up Ben / HEC but what can you ask for a power supply for only $26 ? Just list one negative feedback is not enough to judge the product.
There are still demend for cheap item in the market. I do think US have many cheap customers now- so the eMachine can take over Gateway and Compaq take over HP. That shows cheap manufacture beats quality ones in US.
You know supply always come from demend. American want cheap item and import buyer focus on cheap item for US buyer. I ever talk to International trade center in Taiwan, they all knows america buyer want something cheap and work- don't need to work well don't need to last- just work. Do they care burn down your house ? No one cares!!! Even the US buyer don't care then why people in China, Taiwan, HK cares??
I do think all the buyer knows this is not a hi end PSU. But may be good for someone building a cheap machine for cheap American customer?
#4, what you can ask for is something rated accurately so you can assess whether it will power your system for it's intended life, or fail and be a burden and add to landfills.
This PSU is better described as a 300W unit that uses a momentary peak rating system plus pseudo-dual rail cumulatively summed to give the illusion of higher output power. It's similar to the old 500W PSU for $15 but taken a step further and slight better quality, just not enough better that you'd want to use it for anything more than a budget build all integrated system with no overclocking.
#4, you're mumbling something that is incorrect, eMachines didn't take over Gateway, Gateway BOUGHT eMachines. OEMs do not use overrated crap like this PSU, instead they secure higher volume (reducing per unit cost) at a quality level that minimizes their RMA and related warranty costs.
This PSU really isn't good for a low end system, that's just the one way you might expect it to run longer. Americans don't want cheap so bad that they have to start repairing or replacing parts that they never had to before.
