    This is latest Hitachi HDD (7K1000.C, 500GB, 1 flatter).

    Relatively fast speed, average seek time.
    Not sure about reliability, but ex-IBM might be better than Samsung F3.

    never buying anymore HDs that are <2.0tb. you'll end up throwing them away in the near future.

    Why?! There are tons of uses that don't require TB's of storage. 1 TB is nice to have... but the 1 TB version of this is at least $65. This is a fine solution for a budget build.

    I prefer smaller drives for the system partition, with larger drives for storage.
