Why, when the latest 1tb uses a two platter design?
Who ever thought that the largest HDD one could buy would be less than $100? We're not there yet, but getting very close.
A Maxtor employee told me a few years ago that they were waiting/looking forward to when a HDD could be manufactured for under $40. He said when that happens, they won't be refurbing, but simply replacing with new. It seems that day is here. Since we've seen new drives selling for $40, it's pretty obvious build cost is lower.
I'm not so sure that his opinion is that reliable but it was the last word about it that I've heard.
