What's the best way to drop a SATA2 drive into an older computer with IDE? Is there a simple adapter that works well? I need more space in my theater computer.
is the 8.2ms average seek time average for a 2tb, 7200rpm drive?
yeah #1, there are adapters, you may run into lack of 48 bit addressing problems too (that limit to about 127GB or something) depends how old. I have some old hardware lying around PM me and I send it to you for cheap.
Just buy a PCI card with SATA on it. YOu can get it for cheap on Newegg.
The Hitachi drive sucks. Go for one of the WDs. I recommend the Caviar Black, but even the Green one is okay. They are also 4-platter instead of the craptastic 5-platter design of this one.
you get cool, quiet, light weight of it, plus so so read/write speed
As far as I'm concerned, the Hitachi's are the most reliable drive you can buy. Only the WD2002FYPS comes close.
#1 A lot of people use the IDE to SATA adapters to put large drives into their Xbox when running XBMC, so there is a lot of data out there about the process. As such, be warned: many of these adapters are very poorly made, and often have soldering issues. In some cases the DOA rate is up near 50%
Long live the "Deathstar" lol... Hitachi sucks.
