Looking at hard drive reviews, it doesn't seem like any are worth a baconnaise these days. I think they are trying to push people to the ridiculously overpriced solid state drives.
They all have a failure rate. It's just a matter of how much which they don't release so we are left with looking at the 5 star vs. 1 star ratings on Newegg and other sites and trying to make a decision.
I bought a 2TB version of this on BF. I did read the reviews, but looking at the difference in price between mine at $120 and the rest at $170+, I decided to take a risk.
I had this for less than 2 years. Now it is getting errors now and I RMA'd it. Could be that I got a lemon, but I am just warning ya.

i have no problem with hitachi. both seagate and western digital have failed me at least once each. but not hitachi. not yet.
