Isn't this a better deal for its price and flexibility?

    #1: yes, it is.

#2: it has an eSATA connection, so it will work just as fast as an internal drive.

Not if you're putting it in your system and don't need a spare external enclosure, don't want to fool with the eFvckMe discount.

There's not much of a point in leaving a drive external even if it is as fast, unless you need to move it around. If you do obviously that's a good deal but if not, just more clutter.

Then there's the factor of not knowing what drive comes in that enclosure, or does someone know? Might not be as fast, might be fairly hot running which combined with a typical external enclosure PSU, makes for a higher failure rate than with internal drives and it has only 1 year warranty vs 3 years for the internal drive offered in this deal.

This isn't a bad deal even w/o the rebate so if you're looking for a storage drive I think its worth the risk.

I was thinking of using this with a BlacX dock for my WDTV, does anyone know how well it will work?

Keep in mind it seems to be the old 350GB/platter design, not a big deal if you value capacity/$ most but for main/OS use there is a gain in performance proportional to the price increase going with current-gen 500GB/platter 7K2 RPM alternatives.
