They may run hot and noisy and a little slower than other 7200's but my hitachis never fail.

The latest generation of Hitachi drives raised the alarm for an extremely high failure rate, 10 times that of competitors. Seagate used to be the quality leader, but their drives are not what they used to be. Apparently the most reliable drives right now are made by WD.
Then again, considering all brands have a significant risk of failure, a backup is a must for any model you choose, so you might as well go with the cheapest -- just buy two and do mirror backups.

And the rebate is a Visa prepaid card (with an expiration date). No thanks...

agree #5, i'd even buy two from different manufacturers in case there's a bad batch.

This is insanely cheap. Props to Hitachi for driving down hard drive prices.

I was going to cancel my order from last week ($145), but now dell has raised the price to $170 before the rebate.

I have been searching to find this drive on Hitachi's website or any reviews of it. The ones that newegg has at around the same price ($140) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145276) are a different product number.

I'm trying to find real world stats for this particular drive, vs just Hitachi deskstar foo's, and can't seem to.

    Its a bit frustrating!

Still can't beat my four 1.5TB drives I got from Dell for about $80 about a year ago... When 2TB drives are that low I'll stock up on some.

so no deal huh? guess they realized there was a price error, or too much demand.
