I haven't purchased a Deskstar in years (since the Deathstar fiasco). How are they these days?

    Thanks in advance.

I have several Hitachis in different PCs including a couple of 1.5TB's in the HTPC that have been running under constant heavy loads for at least a year now. No problems whatsoever. Hitachi has been making great hard drives for many many years.

I feel sorry for the people that have to collect neverending grudges. When a big company makes a mistake you can count on them going the extra mile to fix the problems and their reputation. Why not take advantage of that instead of putting yourself in a position of being involved in other companys' fiascos?

All hard drives fail, buy 2, and mirror them (Raid 1) and sleep peacefully forever more.

The "Deathstar" drives (75 GXP) were made by IBM. Ever since the 120 GXP drives came out, and then Hitachi buying the whole storage division shortly after, Hitachi drives have actually been very, very reliable.

I have a 1 TB and 2 320 GB Hitachi drives in a WHS box, running 24/7 for about 6 months now with no problems. I RSYNC the media shares to a remote FreeNAS box as well though.

Is there a 2TB HD with a 64MB Buffer in the market?

The Hitachi 7k1000.B is the best 1TB drive on the market (at least it was before the Samsung F3, anyway), but I think these 2TB drives have about fifty million platters in them. Maybe I'll buy a 7k2000.B sometime.

I've had many Hitachi HDs over the years and have never had a problem with them.

I, too, had good experiences with hitachi drives.
I just don't have $$ to buy some more.
