It's an OEM drive - warranty time uncertain, but has good reviews.

Hitachi = buy at your own risk regardless of length of warranty.

#2 is an rodeo cowboy. Hitachi makes good drives. He's going to come back and give an argument that's equivalent to "I had a friend who owned a Chevrolet in 1970 and he said it sucked so I will never buy a GM in my life."

#2 foams from his orifices. I have purchased Hitachi drives recently and they work just fine, are reliable and and quiet. Indeed, if you want a 500G drive, this is one of the rare good deals among the mountains of trash and hype that Bensie has recently been posting.

I wish its for 40.00 without rebate. #2 Hitachi drives are as good as WDs to my opion based on user reviews and tech specifications. However, I have never own one before.

There is no "brand" to totally avoid, only certain models and firmwares within each brand from time to time. Hint - this is why they are all still in business.

Price is good if you need something for a basic budget PC, though for a small % of total system price I think most of us would rather more performance and higher capacity. Won't be long till $70 for a modern generation 1TB drive is regular price w/o a rebate.

Agreed with #6, remember the clicking issue with the Hitachi notebook drives about 6 years ago?
