Newegg has the Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.D HDS721050DLE630 (0F13178) 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive for $80 - $20 off with coupon code EMCYTZT1569 [Exp 5/13] = $60 with free shipping. Provides up to 16% off idle power savings over the previous generation model.
I can wait too. My last 2.5" HDD ( Non SSD) purchase was $69 for 1TB Toshiba USB 3.0 from Staples.com last November ( after Thailand flood started). $60 for 500GB-- I will pass.
I think the prices are slowly starting to go back to pre-flood levels - still a long way to go though. They are a little too late I guess. While they were away, consumers found an alternative in SSD. Those who started using SSD will never go back to regular hard drives. It is a myth that you need terrabytes of hard drive on your laptop or desktop for day to day use.. 100 or 200 GB hard drive is all most people need. Online media sites removed the need for huge local drives. Only way to fill bigger hard drives is by having backup of backup of backups...
Regular hard drives RIP. Lesson learned - never try to manipulate the market.
No Thank You.

Hard drive boycott. Let the surplus build up again and they will be forced to lower their prices.
