are the deskstars more reliable now with hitachi? i've had bad experiences w/the deathstars from the days when the division was owned by ibm. i'm looking to get the 2.5" 7200 320gb.

$80 pretty good price for this. Get the rebate and you are a real winner.

@ # 8, Rest assured, The Deathstars were laid to rest, These are reliable drives, No problems with any of these in our laptops or Pc deskstars...

I'm sorry, but my time is worth more than waiting on a 5400 rpm drive. I'd start killing people if I had to use this.

#8, this is a Travelstar not a Deskstar. I've had Travelstars in my laptops since 1996, no problems there.

#13, you should use 10K rpm drive. I use them at work, they are much faster than the slow 7200!

5400RPM drives use less electricity than 7200RPM. Your laptop battery will last longer.

But then again, it only has 8MB cache.

Here is the drive #3 was talking about:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145228
    It has 16MB cache.

Why?? go with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136280 and be done with it. Fastest drive available. If you can't afford it, save up.

I'm going to have to add that I have the 160gb version of this drive that came stock in my asus notebook.. It is noticeably slow and from day one made some pretty strange clicks now and then.. I thought it was going to fail when I fist got it.. I would seriously look into what #19 said.. That WD Newegg drive is very tempting if your in the market for a Laptop drive. Otherwise, This thing works if you wanna save a few bucks.
