Full 3.0Gb SATA makes this a pretty solid deal for this size drive. It's not a bad deal pre-rebate even.
The 1TB WD drive @ ZZF right above seems like a much better deal. Shop around if you really want a deal.
this is a 2.5" drive not a desktop drive.
There is virtually no performance difference between 1.5Gbps and 3.0Gbps.
#4:
If there's virtually no performance difference, then I'll go with the drive with virtually more performance over the one with virtually less performance.
I have noticed there is quite a performance difference between your sister and your m0m though.
There is a HUGE performance difference between 1.5 and 3 Gbps, especially if you're using the drives in a raid setup and dealing with HD video. Get a clue, will ya?
Good price. In case you want more performance get a 7200 RPM drive. But the WD 7200 RPM 320GB SATA is around $170. Toshiba will bring out a new 400GB/5400 rpm drive with 2x 200GB disks based on a higher storage density in autumn.
they should make SSDs in mini-PCI form factor, so you can load the OS on the SSD for performance, and still have all the storage you want on a quiet 5400rpm high capacity 2.5" SATA in the harddrive caddy for your laptop
what is the warranty on this? was not able to find it on newegg's site, and is deskstar reliable? or is it still deathstar?
Ummm, #7, the drives's actual DTR performance is significantly below the signaling DTR capability. I have no idea why you would think otherwise.
And #9, they do very much exist already. They just aren't very commodity and aren't inexpensive.
Beware on multiple Hitachi claims! The rebate form indicates a limit of 5 per address. I sent in for a rebate for 2 drives of 320Gig, got back only 1 rebate for $30 instead of two, totalling $60. Their rebate support email claims response in 2 business days, which was up a week and a half ago! Don't buy more than one. .
I'm really starting to think my "luck" with rebates is because I live in Florida, with strong consumer protection laws.
