If you need a chainsaw, do yourself a favor and buy a gas-powered unit. Otherwise, you'll eventually find yourself in a position where you need to cut some wood but have no electricity available. That happened to me this past April when tornadoes knocked out the power in my city for a week and I had a big tree knocked down in my front yard. My electric chainsaw was worthless.
Electric chain saws are great! I never have a problem starting it for a quick cut for the fireplace or pruning a few branches. My gas saw needs to be drained for extended storage otherwise the carb turns into vanished crap.
A large number of emergency room visits are from saw kickbacks. My electric saw has far less kickback. My electric saw also works well for cutting 4x4s.
