Hey, what do yo know. A vacuum cleaner for only $80 that comes with a cord rewinder unlike the overpriced Dysons. Its dual cyclone air system probably sucks better too..
I'm feeling a bit buffeteded.
Buffeting has always bugged me with vacuum cleaners. I hate the thought that my floor is sucked unevenly... Those darn Dyson guys really know how to solve pressing problems in the small appliance arena... and even if there aren't any, they'll find a solution to a problem you didn't even know existed, for a price...
The return of cord rewind! Isn't that from the 70's?
^ Cord rewind is nice 'n handy... why not let the appliance do it for you? Granted that makes it weigh a few ounces more...
Yes, from a time when added features were sometimes actually useful...
This was Consumer Reports top rated bagless vacuum as far as performance goes but Hoover's reliability is terrible these days so was still not recommended. The high priced Dysons were not top performers either. Based on Consumer Reports the bagged vacuums out performed the bagless which I wasn't expecting but I imagine they drop off as the bag fills up. Seems most vacuums are junk these days. The motor in my 15 year old Kenmore upright just went bad so I've been looking for a new one. Looks like you either get a commercial one that will last or a cheap POS that you throw away in a couple of years if your lucky. I'm not seeing a good middle of the road unit that performs well and doesn't crap out quickly.
Yes, today's household class vacuum cleaners are certainly not really designed for a long service life or be repaired beyond simple things. However, the Hoover plastic model I have works great, it was cheap, and it came with a cord rewinder...
There are a few things to remember about any vac but particularly those with plastic motor mounts.
Don't run the vac continuously for a long time. Heat builds up and brittles the plastic or if the motor can't cool itself from dust/etc clogs it can even melt.
After a certain point (time or amount of gunk you vac up) the vac will need disassembled and stray gunk cleaned out. Also after a certain point it may need new motor brushes depending on motor type.
At the first sign of problems turn off the vac, do not operate until the unit has been stripped, examined and fixed.
Also remember that long haired pets (and hippies) belong outside not inside.
