"regular" price would be $100-150, if it had a 160gb. but i like the size and weight better than eee 1000

Yeah, the SSD is the thing that makes me a bit leery about this one. Otherwise it's a pretty sweet machine. HP finally decided to build an Atom netbook, now all they have to do is find a better price point and I'd be sold.

Why would the SSD scare you off? It makes the most sense in a Netbook b/c of power consumption, weight, more shock resistant, etc. I have the asus 1000 with a 40gb SSD and find it's more than enough for what I use it for. SSD will be a lot more common once the prices come down.

I think 16GB is a bit too small even for the casual user who will download pics from a digital camera and maybe download some songs.

I have a 16GB SSD on my netbook and granted, I don't download pics or audio, but otherwise, it is more than enough to do surfing, paper writing, and other daily tasks. I have heard of others using Photoshop on their netbooks, but I'm not sold on that idea really. Of course, one could theoretically add more storage using the MMC reader. In short, I have loaded a number of applications on my netbook and it works great and I still have room to play. I find it amazing what we have become accustomed to in terms of storage expectations, I'm guilty too, yet, in reality, we need very little -- unless one is storing audio and video / pics.

I'm not talking about massive storage but 16GB does seem a tad too little.

However, I do think the HP seems to have the best form factor. That is, not too small but still very light and compact. I'm waiting for the price of this to drop a bit and will buy one for the gf who is looking mostly for portability.

If you are storing your camera pics in your netbook, then you shouldn't have a netbook to begin with.

#1 I don't think they have been putting Vista on the netbooks. Not enough HP and they generally only have 1 GB ram not good for Vista and even marginal for XP..
