If I slapped a HDMI out video card in this thing would it be worth it as a HTPC?

Tough call #1, since it doesn't have an OS, not just meaning less value w/o the OS license but also that you still have to spend the time setting it up, you can probably do as well buying a piece at a time or even better.

Any of the low end dual core Athlons should o'c to 2.7Ghz or well beyond, with this HP probably not allowing much if any o'c.

Picking your own motherboard would allow one with integrated video that does full HD decoding saving the cost of the video card and cutting power consumption.

Main thing in favor of this combo is it comes with the keyboard and case, if you have to buy these two parts new too it'd put you a fair % over $250.

Personally I'd rather get an ATI 785 or nVidia 8200 based board, something like an Asus M3n78-VM as it has a lot of features and good quality for it's after rebate price (about $55 right now at the 'egg IIRC) including SATA RAID, an eSATA port, gigabit ethernet and might have firewire too, plus it's bound to have a better userbase for peer support and OEM bios updates than an old OEM HP motherboard would. Almost forgot - it has HDMI w/working audio and DVI outputs.

Plus the Geeks system is refurbished which could mean anything from Geeks, but to some people just having all the parts there together instead of spending time on that could be worth a few feature losses.

No reason to buy this box of dubious provenance when you can get the same thing at Dell Outlet, with an OS. Right now there's a 15% off sale and you can probably even match or beat this price if you snipe it.
