That's a lot of nice hardware for $1000. Nice to see an HP laptop with a decent screen too. Definitely a Desktop replacement but you could still lug it around if you had to. HP coupon codes don't last long so buy one soon if you're planning on it.

Is HP good quality in a laptop? Another brand better?

Nice package for the price. I would jump if I needed a new laptop.

great deal, if I had the money and needed one right away I would jump on this deal. HP is a pretty decent brand, I own an HP touch screen laptop and I love it. Never had any issues, so you should be OK getting one.

The last company I worked for had about 5K HP units and they were very reliable. I was part of IT and never had major issue even when thing went wrong the company backed up their hardware very well.

I realize that comparing this monster to a netbook (which I have and love) is absurd...but other than the obvious differences, a serious question for me is what battery life with 18" is like. After getting 4-5 hours on my current and former laptops, estimates for 2.5 hours seem worthless.

With the hardware in this thing you'll be lucky to get 2 hours up time on battery power. Most likely you're looking at around 1.5 hours or less depending on use. But then again you don't take an 18" everywhere you go. This thing is meant for a desktop replacement, something you can carry from one spot to another and then plug it in when you get there.

#7, get a clue. Yes, they are gas (power) guzzlers, but that is to be expected on a 17" and up laptop. Curious what you are using your laptops for where you are getting 5 hours of battery life. web browsing? Word processing? If so, this is way too much laptop for you. #6, you are badly misinformed about pricing. Go build a Dell with these specs and you will see.

I read some of the reviews on this laptop and a few recommended skipping the 64 bit. Too many problems with it and use of some programs. Any recommendations regarding this on here?

Laptop does rate 4.6 out of 5 stars on HP's site.

This is a great desktop replacement and order it if you need it now. Otherwise, wait for Windows 7 release which will perform much better based on the current hardware configuration. Hopefully, we may see touch screen feature applied to this too.

I just set up a similarly configured Dell Studio 17 with similar but slightly inferior specs for $1794 Shipped and the HP for around $1100 shipped including Tax on both scenarios. P8700(Dual Core, 2.53GHz), 4 Gig DDR2, finger print, blue tooth, 500 gig HD, wireless N, backlit keyboard, large battery, webcam, media reader, etc, etc...My trigger finger is mighty itchy on this one.
