"This is our smallest processor built with the world's smallest transistors. The Intel® Atom™ processor is based on an entirely new design, built for low power and designed specifically for a new wave of Mobile Internet Devices and simple, low-cost PC's. This small wonder is a fundamental new shift in design, small yet powerful enough to enable a big Internet experience on these new devices. We believe it will unleash new innovation across the industry."
– Intel Executive Vice President Sean Maloney
Decent enough specs considering most of HP's netbooks have been powered by Via's C7 processor which is slower than dirt. The only thing that could be better would be a 6-cell battery, the 3-cell ones don't get very good up time.
The 3 cell battery and 8GB SSD are kind of on the low end for a netbook. Unless you really trim back the XP 3-4GB of the drive will be OS. Does not leave too much room to spare.
xp on an 8gb ssd.. i don't see the point
Asus beats it.
Don't see the point of these low end laptop that cost the same as normal ones. yes it's smaller but it's hard to read text and graphics wise it's slow.
I agree with # 6. unless weight is you main concern, you are better off with a larger laptop with more features and expandability for the same cost.
#6, I agree! I bought a used vaio t350p, 11 inch screen, 3 years old and I wouldn't trade it for the best netbook out there!
You can opt for a 60gb 4200rpm hd for 55 bucks more. I'm waiting for a larger battery before purchasing this thing.
not worth it
The benefit of these laptops are those trips where you dont want another pound of gear. Plus this laptop sucks because it only has a 8 gig ssd. Most of the other Atom based laptops have much bigger ssd.
I guess this is ok if all you do is light wordprocessing.
These are like a trend.
The HP Mini 1000 is so cute. For cnet's take:
http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/hp-mini-1000/4505-3121_7-33351192.html
the low power consumption allows it to get by on the smaller battery. A "full sized" laptop running on this 3-cell wouldn't last an hour. Weight and portability are the key selling points for netbooks. If those aren't important to you, of course you're not going to get the point.
Well most of the netbook ssd don't perfrom as well as the hdd. SO if you want a netbook the ones with the HDD are the best. I agree on the price thing thats why I only look for the ones in he 300-400 range.
yes, it's "cuter" than eee 10". glossy lcd glass, slimmer, lighter. large keyboard buttons. nice size and location of right shift key.
cute gloss is more irritating than the asus eee right shift key ))
cute yes, but in 4 months you'll wish you saved the $ for the gen2 netbooks. But someone in the family can use it so go ahead & buy one
That's funny... it is $100 more expensive than what i paid for my MSI Wind, $50 more than it's current price, and they share essentially the same specs. Only difference is I have a 10" display and a 120GB non-SSD drive. By the way, these puppies aren't actually that bad. I'm running Vista and Ubuntu on here and they both run fine. Reviews I read stated that Vista runs fine and even benchmarks higher for certain apps for some reason, at least on the Wind. I'm running it now to see how true it is. And hey, so far so good. Also, I have a dedicated overclock button that overclocks by 25%. So this puppy runs at 2.0ghz instead of 1.6ghz. No extra heat, no loud fan, and stable as hell. If you want a better deal go grab the Wind from Newegg or most other sites for ~350. Or wait until another rebate shows up and save $50 like me.
These things are so dang cool. I want one, but the economy. sigh.
