This is a killer deal if you want/need one of these. The bonus of WHS is nice too.
Good unit actually, just get rid of that S _H _I _T _T _Y WHS2011 junk.
macmall & amazon did have the server alone for $200, seems to have gone up now. didn't seem like much of a deal at the time, guess I'm glad I grabbed one
I have one of these systems running UnRAID. For me, it's the perfect set up for movie share to be used through the home. Get rid of the WHS and you're golden!
#3 Amazon is $296 and MacMall's deal ran out days ago.
Thank you, drive through.
Nothing wrong with WHS 2011 at all. If you like another product that's fine but don't diss a product just because you don't like the maker. I don't like Apple but that doesn't make their hardware $hit. It's just too expensive.
That's the thing #6, Apple is too expensive as in their hardware IS crap compared to what you can get elsewhere for the same money (if you exclude their proprietary stuff like metal laptop chassis which isn't actually needed).
Same with WHS, if it were free then people would pick based on their needs but to pay extra for something that has both pros and cons, it makes you feel like a company as wealthy as MS could have worked a bit harder. Plus, they keep dumbing down their products to the point where you have to do things THEIR way even if that way is inferior because they keep designing as if the most important thing is that someone who has never touched a computer before can do it. Sometimes that's important but for a home server you hope to just set up once and forget while using it for years, things change compared to the needs of your everything-n-kitchen-sink main use PC.
